Objective
I am an experienced research scientist with training and practice in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. I have been apart of several collaborative research projects throughout the last decade, both in and outside of academia. Most recently I have been co-PI on grant proposals from the NIH/NIMHD (funded), NSF (funded) and the DOE (under review). As an independent researcher, I have written several successful research grant and fellowship applications. These grants/fellowships have ranged from $500 to $250,000.
Industry Experience
Analyst, TN Dept. of Health Office of Informatics & Analytics
June 2018 - June 2019
As an analyst, under the direction of Sarah Nechuta, MPH PhD, I conducted quantitative analyses on large data sets including statewide birth, death, and morbidity data related to opioid use in Tennessee. I also co-created and prepared data briefs and data visualizations for submission to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Dr. Nechuta and I conducted analyses and wrote a paper examining trends in neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) in Tennessee from 2012 to 2017. This study reveals an increase in NAS incidence over time, particularly for White non-Hispanic infants.
Research Assistant, My Brother’s Keeper, Inc.
2013 - 2014
My Brother’s Keeper, Inc is a non-profit organization aimed at reducing disparities in health care access and treatment for men who have sex with men (MSM). As a research assistant under the supervision of Dr. Nhan Truong, I assisted with creating recruitment flyers, interview protocols, and conducting, transcribing, and coding in-depth interviews for a study on masculinity and risky sexual behaviors among African American MSM in Jackson, Mississippi.
